Dr. Louis Probst, M.D., F.R.C.S.C., LVC Surgeon - Medical Director of TLC Refractive Centers

Dr. Louis Probst, Medical Director of TLC Refractive Centers, is one of the most experienced surgeons in the world, having performed more than 90,000 LASIK procedures! In 1995, Dr. Probst began performing LASIK in Canada. He has since performed LASIK procedures using the best excimer lasers in the world, including the Bausch and Lomb Technolas 217, Nidek EC 5000, LaserSight LSX, Autonomous "flying spot" Ladar Vision, and the VISX Star S4 Smoothscan excimer lasers. Over 200 eye doctors have had their LASIK procedure performed by Dr. Probst.

Education/Training
Dr. Probst completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Western Ontario where he received four awards from his peers for outstanding achievement. He was selected among ophthalmologists across North America for a surgical corneal fellowship in corneal transplantation and refractive surgery at the University of Minnesota.

Memberships/Affiliations
Currently, Dr. Probst is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is a past Educational Director of the International Society of Refractive Surgery.

Honors/Accomplishments
In 2005 and 2006, Dr. Probst was selected by his peers as one of the Top 50 World Opinion Leaders in the Field of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. In 2004, Dr. Probst was awarded the Achievement Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and "Best paper" awards at the annual meetings of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Canadian Ophthalmology Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Probst has given over 200 lectures and provides training to surgeons and eye doctors at refractive conferences throughout the world from Brazil to India. He has published over 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 70 book chapters and 6 textbooks on refractive surgery. As a leader in LASIK, he developed ten instruments specifically for refractive surgeons who perform LASIK procedures.

John K. Lehr, OD - Clinical Director

Dr. Lehr is the Clinical Director of TLC- Westchester where he is responsible for overseeing all aspects of patient care,including the proper selection of laser vision correction candidates, planning surgical treatments with the surgeon and patient education. He has worked with Dr. Probst and other refractive surgeons in the Chicago area for over ten years and has participated in the care of thousands of surgery patients.

Education
Dr. Lehr received his doctoral degree from Illinois College of Optometry and his undergraduate degree from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Before accepting his role as Clinical Director with TLC, Dr. Lehr was in group practices with ophthalmologists where he focused on surgical patient management, ocular disease, specialty contact lenses, and primary eye care.

Memberships/Affiliations
Dr. Lehr is a member of the American Optometric Association, Illinois Optometric Association, and the Optometric Council on Refractive Technology.

Honors/Accomplishments
Dr. Lehr lectures regularly on laser vision correction and dry eye disease. With his extensive background, Dr. Lehr is knowledgeable in all state-of-the-art refractive procedures, including wavefront-guided treatments, IntraLase, Intacs, ICL’s, and refractive lensectomy.

Dr. Lehr is committed to the continued advancement of affiliated optometrists in the community who provide pre-operative and post-operative care to patients undergoing laser vision correction. He is a member of TLC’s Clinical Advisory Group for the north central region, assisting in the development and education of optometrists within the company.
