TLC Piedmont staff member Joanne Rogers talks about her LASIK experience...

Before moving to Greenville I worked for an ophthalmologist in Florida who was doing the RK procedure. Although I could have had that procedure done, and at no charge to me, I opted not to. When I started working at TLC I was truly amazed at how many eye doctors were having the LASIK procedure themselves, it seemed like not a procedure day would go by without an eye doctor, doctor's staff member or family member being a patient. This impressed me so much as I was not used to seeing eye doctors have refractive surgery at my previous place of employment.

My position at TLC included being the pre-op technician and I saw every kind of prescription, every age and personality type go through the door into the surgery suite..mild to very severe, those that were calm about the procedure and those that were very anxious, but the results on the completed side of the door were so similar as they experienced the WOW factor of corrected vision.

Although I successfully wore RGP's contact lenses for 40 years, I decided that I wanted the freedom of not wearing contacts or glasses. I had worn mono vision lenses for a number of years and decided, along with our surgeon, that I would have a mono vision correction. The first word that comes to my mind when thinking of the procedure is FREEDOM.Freedom from protecting my eyes from the wind; freedom from wearing my glasses on plane trips, taking the contacts and solutions to put in immediately upon my arrival at the airport as the altitude was so drying to my eyes; freedom to ride bikes on the beach and not worry about the sand getting under the contacts. My procedure was performed in 1999 and I am still "20/happy".

One of the first things I noticed was I could see the alarm clock in the middle of the night. I am thrilled with my clear vision and I enjoy going to the lake more than ever without the hassles of glasses and contacts.
