Back to TopTLC LASIK Patients Have High Satisfaction and Improved Quality of Life
The vast majority of the surveyed TLC Laser Eye Centers patients who had LASIK or other laser vision correction procedures are very satisfied with the results, and most said that the overall quality of their lives and daily routines have improved, according to the results of a recent TLC patient study. TLC's study mirrors the recent Harris Interactive Survey commissioned by the Eye Surgery Education Council (ESEC). That survey was the first nationwide quality of life survey assessing life implications for laser vision correction patients. Both the TLC survey and the Harris survey clearly show that laser vision correction has a profound positive impact on overall quality of life, daily routine, and job performance. However, the TLC survey results outperformed those of Harris in almost all areas, indicating that TLC patients surveyed reported experiencing the highest quality of patient care and achieving excellent results.
CustomLASIK revealing excellent results at TLC Florida Eye Laser Center
Back to TopThe advent of wave front aberrometers has ushered in a totally new way of evaluating the human optical system. It allows us to construct a refractive map on multiple locations on the surface of the cornea. Whereas conventional laser ablation applies a single correction to the patient's corneal surface, wave-front-guided ablations have the capability to apply a correction to each and every point on the cornea. This allows for truly customized vision for every eye.
Who will benefit from CustomLASIK
Back to TopAs we are gaining more knowledge on wave-front-guided LASIK, (CustomLASIK) we do know that patients with a high percentage of higher-order aberrations will benefit from wave-front-guided, or CustomLASIK. The FDA trials were very clear-cut in their results in that there is a definite reduction in the possibility of glare and haloes, and other associated night vision problems by correcting these higher-order aberrations. This also seems to be beneficial to patients with larger pupils, whom we would have thought in the past would be definitely higher risk for glare and haloes at night. Some surgeons are performing wave-front-guided ablations on all of their patients while others are very strict on who qualifies for custom LASIK. We like to individualize each patient, evaluate their orbscan, and their wave front results and then make a mutual decision with the patient.
Additionally, the other benefit of wave-front-guided LASIK (CustomLASIK) is the very accurate refraction that the aberrometers are producing, and the equally accurate laser ablation profile. This is giving extremely good postoperative vision to our patients and over time, we believe this will reduce our enhancement rate even further.
The current indication for CustomLASIK treatment is for myopic astigmatism, up to 6.5 diopters sphere and cylinder up to 3 diopters.

Same Technology Approved by NASA is Available at TLC Laser Eye Centers
Back to TopThe National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) has announced the approval of Bladeless Custom LASIK vision correction for their astronauts - the same bladeless custom technology that is also available nationwide at TLC Laser Eye Centers.
NASA's approval came following a review of extensive military clinical data using the same two lasers employed in our Bladeless Custom LASIK. The research showed that the use of the combination of technologies provided superior safety and vision - results TLC Centers agree are unparalleled.
