Wow! Where to begin?! My entire experience with TLC Laser Eye Centre in Halifax has been amazing! I wore glasses for 29 years and wearing contacts was becoming intolerable. On a bit of a whim, I booked a consultation at TLC…it was free, what did I have to lose?! I previously thought my eyes were too bad for corrective surgery. To my surprise, and excitement, I was told I was a candidate for Custom PRK. Two and a half months later, I had the surgery!
I can’t say enough about Dr. Belliveau and the staff at TLC. Dr. Belliveau did a really great job precisely describing my procedure before and during surgery, so there were no surprises. The entire staff is very genuine and seemed to know they are helping change peoples’ lives. They seemed as excited for me as I was for myself!
The procedure itself is definitely an experience! As prepared as I thought I was it was still a bit of a shock when Dr. Belliveau began the epithelium removal. Right after this I was able to settle in for the procedure with the help of Glenda’s voice talking me through the entire procedure. I don’t think I was in the surgery suite any more than 15 minutes! Overall, I would rate it as less stressful than a cleaning at the dentist!
I would also like to acknowledge Dr. Ryan Smith at Windsor Vision Centre. Ryan is the affiliate optometrist that TLC set me up with for my follow up care. He has been fantastic! Dr. Smith is very thorough and encouraging, and has a great sense of humor! The fact that TLC has affiliate doctors in smaller communities for follow up care was a big selling feature for me!
A very important note to all of the patients who are about to have PRK: PLEASE TRY TO AVOID BECOMING DISCOURAGED DURING YOUR RECOVERY!!! I experienced some pain post-surgery; it started about 36 hours after surgery and lasted only about 24hours. It’s not overly pleasant at the time, but you will get through it. Also be prepared that your vision for the first couple of weeks will not be great. From the research I did, and information from Dr. Maillet, this seems to be the nature of PRK. Plan ahead for your home and work life, then kick back and relax for a few days! Have patience, as a few weeks later you will be amazed!!! It has been six weeks since my surgery and I still do not have perfect vision in my left eye, but it is still healing! That being said, my vision is better at this point than it ever was with glasses or contacts!

I Wish to sincerely thank all the staff at TLC Halifax for giving me the gift of sight. I never dreamed in a million years that I could throw away my glasses and see even better than I ever did with them. This is by far the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me. I cried a lot prior to the surgery, thinking how amazing this could possibly be. But let me say that after the surgery, when I stood up and could read the sign on the door that just minutes before was a blur of white, tears were not enough, I personnaly thank Dr Belliveau and his amazing staff for the miracle that you performed on me.
I Always said that I would give anyhting to have my vision, and now the mere dollars I paid to have this done seems so little for the gift I recieved in return. There will never be a day go by that I wont think of you guys and what you have done for me. I am crying as I write this knowing that I can see the keyboard so easily.
