Anthony J. Lombardo, M.D., Ph.D. - Medical Director

Dr. Lombardo's training begins at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he studied biomedical engineering. He went on to complete both his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where he graduated cum laude. During his tenure in medical school, his honors included induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, as well as reception of a Superior Achievement Award for the clinical curriculum. Numerous national awards, including grants from the National Institutes of Health (N.I.H.), supported his 4 years of research for the Ph.D. Following a one-year internal medicine internship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Dr. Lombardo completed a competitive three-year ophthalmology residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital, in Baltimore, Maryland. Subsequently, he was selected from applicants across North America for an additional prestigious one-year subspecialty fellowship program in refractive surgery at Minnesota Eye Consultants. This fellowship included training with world leaders in refractive and corneal surgery and treating patients from around the world with complex corneal conditions. As a board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in refractive, cataract, and corneal surgery, Dr. Lombardo is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the leaders in laser vision correction in the central Indiana area. He has performed laser vision correction using some of the finest excimer lasers in the world, including the VISX Star S4, the Bausch & Lomb 217, and the Autonomous Ladar Vision. His experience performing eye surgery has allowed him to serve as an instructor to train other ophthalmologists in LASIK.

Dr. Lombardo is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the International Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Lombardo was instrumental in introducing CustomLASIK to TLC Indiana and continues to work hard to educate other eye care providers in this new technology. He stays active in the ophthalmic community through publishing journal articles, authoring textbook chapters, and presenting at national meetings. He serves as an instructor at national meetings to train young ophthalmologists in cataract surgery and has served as an investigator for several F.D.A. clinical studies.

He was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama, where he graduated as the valedictorian of his high school class.

Kevin L. Waltz, O.D., M.D.

Dr. Kevin Waltz has over a decade of experience with Laser Vision Correction having performed approximately 20,000 procedures. He first treated patients with the original VISX 20/20 laser in March of 1995 in Spain and treated his first Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) patients in the US in December of 1995. He performed LASIK in the US in September of 1996. He has extensive experience with different laser platforms, currently utilizing the VISX S4 IR. He performs LASIK, PRK, Custom LASIK, and Custom PRK. He is certified to use the Intralase laser to create bladeless flaps for LASIK. In addition to laser vision procedures, Dr.Waltz corrects vision utilizing Phakic IOLs and Multifocal IOLs. He is a paid industry consultant to Advanced Medical Optics, the company which manufactures the VISX laser.

Dr.Waltz is very confident in the results that Laser Vision Correction achieves for patients. He has performed LASIK and PRK on several of his partners, hundreds of eye doctors and their staffmembers. DrWaltz had Photorefractive Keratectomy(PRK) performed by his partner, Dr. Anthony Lombardo and his wife, Rhonda FoxWaltz, had LASIK performed on both eyes in February of 1996.

Dr.Waltz is one of the only a handful of doctors in the US who is both an optometrist and ophthalmologist and has advanced fellowship training in both specialties. He graduated from the Indiana University School of Optometry in 1981, and he completed a two year fellowship at the Southern College School of Optometry in 1983. Dr.Waltz received his medical degree from the Meharry Medical College in 1987 and then completed an internship at Vanderbilt University in 1988. He served a three year residency in ophthalmology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL which he completed in 1991. He was selected for a prestigious fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery under Dr. Frank Nesi atWayne State University. This allowed Dr.Waltz to receive extra training in surgery of the eyelids, orbits, and tear ducts.

Dr.Waltz is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is recertified every 10 years, most recently in 2005. Over the last decade, DrWaltz has dedicated his time to developing his Laser Vision Correction techniques by attending and teaching at training courses in the US, Canada, and Europe.

Melissa Melott, O.D., Clinical Director

Dr. Melissa Melott, Clinical Director for TLC Laser Eye Centers in Indiana, brings with her a diverse background in the management of pre-and post-operative surgical care. Dr. Melott graduated from the Indiana University School of Optometry in 1997. In 1998, she completed a residency program specializing in the treatment of ocular disease.

After completing her residency, Dr. Melott worked in a co-management referral center before coming to TLC in July of 1999. Dr. Melott was trained by Dr. Brian Duvall, previous Clinical Director for TLC Indiana, as well as by several TLC surgeons nationally. She has experienced refractive surgery first hand, having had the procedure in August of 1999.
