Dr. Alberto J. Aran

Education

Dr. Aran received his medical degree with honors from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He also completed his post-graduate training in ophthalmology and a fellowship in corneal and external diseases at Tulane.

Memberships/ Accomplishments

Dr. Aran is Board Certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology and by the American Board of Eye Surgeons. Dr. Aran is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology for Tulane University School of Medicine, Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor for the State University of New York and Nova Southeastern University. He is an established member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Dr. Aran was the first ophthalmic surgeon in Florida to use an FDA approved excimer laser and has trained over fifty ophthalmic physicians in the use of excimer laser. He was certified by STAAR Surgical Company as one of the first qualified vision correction surgeons for surgically implanting ICLs (Implantable Collamer lens), providing maintenance-free vision correction intended to last a life time.

Personal

A dedicated family man, Dr. Aran has donated over 1000 clinical and surgical hours to the indigent and needy since the beginning of his medical profession. The U.S. Congress has cited him for his selfless contributions to the needy; he is listed in Who’s Who Amongst Outstanding Americans, and received the Belen Jesuit Prep’s “Men For Others Award”. He has also received awards from the U.S. Air Force, Bruce Heiken Fund, Florida Lions Club, Dade and Broward County Optometric Associations. Most recently Dr. Aran, as an Eagle Scout was presented with the prestigious “Hispanic Heritage Community Award”, by the South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America.
