Andrew Holzman, MD, FACS, Corneal Specialist

Medical Director

Dr. Andrew Holzman is a twice - board certified surgeon and Corneal Specialist.  He has performed over 55,000 procedures and is considered leader in the LASIK field. He has been an integral part of advanced technology, working with many companies on new developments in laser vision correction. With over 20 years of experience as a corneal sub-specialist, who else would you turn to for your own refractive surgery needs?  When you work with Dr. Holzman, you know what you're going to get:  a meticulous refractive surgeon who is dedicated to excellence and compassionate patient care.  

 

 

 

Maria Oettinger

Surgical and Ophthalmic Technician

Maria has worked with Dr. Holzman together in the surgical suite for over a decade.  She is his right arm women in the OR.  Maria is cross trained in all areas of the Clinic and has 25 years of Ophthalmic and laser vision correction experience.  She is a certified on VISX S4, Allegretto and IntraLase.  She is married and has two children.

 

 

 

Jennifer Phung

Jennifer is one of our Senior Surgical Consultants.  Jennifer has been with TLC Laser Eye Centers since 2005.  She has sixteen years of experience in Ophthalmology and Optometry.  Jennifer is certified on the VISX S4, Allegretto and IntraLase.  She loves working with our patients and provides a helping hand to make our patients experience and procedure easier and memorable.  When you meet her, either during your consultation or on your surgical day, you will see how friendly and outgoing she is.  She graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a B.S. in microbiology. She is married and has a new baby girl.  

 

 

Eleni Katsikes

Ophthalmic and Surgical Technician

Leni is our “jack of all trades”. She is fully cross trained in all aspects of the Center and is always seeking opportunities to learn more. She is part of the surgical suite team and often travels with Dr. Holzman when he does cases at TLC’s Charlottesville Center.  Leni might seem quiet at first, but she is really good at making jokes with impeccable timing.  Leni is certified on the VISX S4, Allegretto and IntraLase Lasers.

 

 

Kristina O'Neill

Kristina's also been with Dr. Holzman since before they joined TLC.  She's ready to jump in wherever she's needed in the office, no matter what the task.  When our two seasoned surgical techs took family leave this summer at the same time, Kristina stepped up to the plate to fill that role.  In her “free” time, she enjoys updating Dr. Holzman's website and Face book page.  Kristina graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelors in Science and is certified on the VISX S4 , Allegretto and IntraLase lasers. She is married with three children and enjoys interior decorating.

Jen Weigel, OD, FAAO

As the newest member of the TLC Tysons Corner clinical team, Dr. Weigel is eager to put her clinical background to the test.  She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2000, cum laude from the Southern College of Optometry in 2004, and completed her residency in ocular disease in 2005.  Dr. Weigel became a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry in 2009.  Her extensive background in refractive surgery and ocular disease management combined with her active professional involvements made Dr. Weigel the most qualified candidate to lead the clinical side of TLC Tysons Corner.  

 

She was selected as the 2011 Young O.D. of the Year by the Virginia Optometric Association.  She is originally from Dallas, but don't worry Redskins fans.  She likes to follow Longhorn football ... Hook 'em Horns!

Patricia Woo, O.D.

Dr. Woo is a native of the New York City area.  She graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University with a BA in Psychology.  In 2007, Dr. Woo completed her Doctor of Optometry at the State University of New York (SUNY), College of Optometry.  After graduation, she completed her one year optometry residency program at the Northport Veterans Administration in Northport, Long Island.  

 

Dr. Woo has practiced in a variety of settings, including private and corporate-affiliated practice and an HMO.  She currently balances her time between being a Clinical Optometrist at TLC and private practice.    

 

 

Hieu Vu-Gia, O.D.

Dr. Hieu Vu-Gia grew up in Connecticut and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University in New York City. Pursuing an interest in optometry led him to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia where he earned his Doctor of Optometry. After graduation, Dr. Vu-Gia moved to the Washington, DC, metropolitan area and has been in practice here since 1996. 

 

Dr. Vu-Gia should be a familiar face for those that have been referring to TLC Tysons Corner over the years.  He was formerly the Clinical Director of our office, having teamed up with Dr. Holzman back when it was Millennium Laser Eye Center.  Dr. Vu-Gia currently balances his time between TLC Gainesville and a private practice in Oakton where he is a founding partner.  He currently resides in Northern Virginia with his wife and two children.

 

 

Joanne Vaughan

Ophthalmic Technician and Patient Consultant

A native of Alabama, Joanne attended the University of Alabama.  After moving to Northern Virginia, she worked with the Department of the Navy’s Bureau of Medicine and Surgery before concentrating on raising her family.  After returning to the workforce, Joanne joined a large private optometry practice in Northern Virginia as an optometric technician for almost twenty years.  As part of that practice, she served as the Laser Vision Coordinator, introducing patients to LASIK and PRK as laser vision correction was first becoming approved in the United States.  Joanne was the primary liaison between the private practice and TLC, and she had PRK over 15 years ago.  Given her long history with TLC, Joanne was excited about the opportunity to join Dr. Holzman and his TLC team in January 2011.  Here, she can be found in our Tysons Corner and Gainesville locations serving as an ophthalmic technician and patient counselor.

 

 

Cindy O'Connor

Cindy started in the eye care field in 1978 as a receptionist for a West Memphis, Arkansas, optometry practice.  She also worked as a technician in Vicksburg, Mississippi.  Following her husband, who worked for the US Government, they then moved to Lafayette, Indiana, where she transitioned into ophthalmology.  After moving to the Washington, DC, area in 1990, she continued work as an ophthalmic technician before joining TLC in 1998.  Cindy started out in the TLC Reston office and then joined the TLC Tysons Corner office with Dr. Holzman in Spring 2011.  "I have loved my transition and look forward to many more years of working here at TLC," Cindy said.

Joan handles all of our referring Doctor's needs, and makes sure that our affiliate network of Eye Care Professionals have all the tools necessary to make a Laser Vision referral. This is very important, and insures that the patient's care is highly coordinated between our center and the referring Doctor's offices.  If you are a new Optometrist to the area and want to find out more about joining our select network of Affiliates, please get in contact with Joan ... That's if she hasn't tried to meet with you first.  Joan enjoys spending time in Florida and with her grandchildren.

Anne has is a native of the Washington, D.C. area.  Anne has been with the TLC family for almost 10 years, having served patients in our Fairfax and Reston offices before joining us in Tysons Corner in April 2011.  She is always ready to consul patients in any area, whether it's appointment scheduling, preoperative medication instructions, applying for financing, or answering other general questions. Anne is newly married to John Andrews, and they are both proud to be expecting parents.

Lyzzy coordinates everything administratively ... check in, check out, phones, charts, tons of faxes, mail, and is the centers computer whiz!  She is a super detailed, well organized coordinator and excels at multi-tasking. She makes record keeping and financial reporting look like child’s play.  She is always thinking of new ways to improve efficiencies.  Lyzzy graduated from the George Washington University with a degree in International Studies. Lyzzy is married with one child and one on the way!  She is an avid reader in her spare time.

What a score for the TLC Tysons Corner team to have Kate join us as Senior Center Manager.  She brings 15 years of experience in the Eye Care industry having managed  teams for AMO and Abbott.  Given her extensive management and eye care background, Kate has been leading our team since January 2011.  She has successfully lead us through so many big events in our office history in such a short period of time ... most notably the merger with our Reston office and the move into our new, improved clinic.  As an innovative thinker that's always looking forward, she's always working on ways to improve efficiencies in the Center.  Kate has a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and is a VIP member of the National Association of Professional Women.
