Education

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Schultze received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in 1994 where he was distinguished with the Lamport Biomedical Research Award. Upon completion of residency, Dr. Schultze furthered his education with specialty fellowship training in Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery at the Albany Medical College. He now serves as Director of the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Fellowship Program as well as the Director of Medical Student Ophthalmology Education.  Dr. Schultze serves as Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery at the Albany Medical Center Department of Ophthalmology as well as Medical Director of the Albany Lions Eye Bank. He was the first area surgeon to perform a CustomLasik and a blade-free LASIK on a Capital District patient and has performed over 6,000 successful refractive procedures. His refractive experience dates back to 1998 when he was one of the first fellows in the country to obtain training in the field and actually perform laser refractive surgery. Dr. Schultze's continued focus lies in maximizing patient outcomes and satisfaction while maintaining a strong rapport with his patients.

Memberships/ Accomplishments
Dr Schultze is an expert in the latest revolutionary techniques in corneal and refractive surgery and has been featured on ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX television. He has been invited to participate in several national multi-center studies including an FDA-monitored trial for excimer laser correction of farsightedness and astigmatism. Numerous residents, fellows, and established regional surgeons have come to observe him operate and share his expertise. In addition, Dr. Schultze serves the American Board of Ophthalmology as a Special Examiner working to help administer the board certification exam designed to test the competency of all new ophthalmologists. He serves the American Academy of Ophthalmology on both the Program and Eye Bank Committees. Dr. Schultze regularly presents his research at national meetings and has also travelled around the world to deliver lectures, share his ideas with others, and stay abreast of the latest developments in the field. 
Dr. Schultze has produced two award-winning videos of his surgery and has also been awarded a “Best Paper of Session” award for his research. He is a recipient of the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Honor Award as well as the “Top Ophthalmologist” award from the “Guide to America’s Top Ophthalmologists”.
