Industry leader TLC Laser Eye Centers announced today that the company performed Washington Nationals’ catcher Wilson Ramos with laser vision correction surgery this offseason. Ramos credits his ability to see more clearly with his improved performance at the plate.
April 12, 2016 – TLC Laser Eye Centers, the leading provider of laser vision correction in North America, announced today that Wilson Ramos of the Washington Nationals had his LASIK eye surgery performed in its Washington, DC office. The procedure, which took place on March 4, has already proven to be a great success for the starting catcher.
After the surgery, Ramos’ eyesight improved to 20/15. Although Ramos is a career .258 hitter, his batting average last year was .229. He was struggling with contact lenses and that may have been part of his issues at the plate. Ramos batted .313 this spring and has credited his improved performance to his LASIK procedure. He is certain it will help him with his catching duties behind the plate as well.
TLC’s Dr. Andrew Holzman, a distinguished physician with more than 65,000 laser vision correction procedures under his belt, performed the surgery.
“The beautiful thing about LASIK is that it can really make an impact on people’s lives,” said Dr. Holzman. “Wilson’s vision has improved so much, and now he will not have to struggle with contacts while he is on the baseball field. I think he will have a breakout year, and I can’t wait to watch him play.”
“I feel more comfortable at the plate. It’s only four or five games after surgery, but I see the difference now,” said Ramos. “…I can say the surgery helped me to be better at the plate.”
