When Did Jan First Start Dealing with Vision Problems?
“I started wearing glasses when I was in the fifth grade, and it was traumatic. I mean, they weren’t pretty. Then I wore glasses all through high school, and when I turned 18 I was able to buy my first pair of contacts.”
For a Time, Jan Felt Like Contacts Were the Solution…
“Things were working out. So, glasses were a thing of the past, or I only wore them on Sundays. It seemed fabulous. Then we bought a horse farm. Every morning I’d be at the barn, and I’m mucking stalls. Things are flying everywhere, into my contacts. We’re talking bedding, hay… and I thought, okay there go the contacts. I have to wear glasses in the barn. I could change into contacts when I went into the house but it was inconvenient, so it was glasses non-stop, 24/7.”
What Made Jan Decide It Was Time to Try Laser Eye Surgery?
“One day my husband came up to me and said ‘I want to see your eyes,’ so I went to TLC and I was so impressed. They run quite a lot of tests. You see about four or five people, and each one has their own task. I didn’t feel like a cog in a wheel though, and that was surprising to me. I know I wasn’t their first rodeo, but I didn’t feel that way. I felt like ‘I’m special,’ it was all about me and my eyes. I felt comfortable, and I felt confident.”
How Did the Results of LASIK Compare to Jan’s Expectations?
“People told me that you’ll see as soon as you wake up, and it’s true. It was amazing, and that was the day of surgery. On the way home I wanted to peek and see signs, but I listened to directions and kept my eyes shut. I took a two-hour nap, and when I woke up I think I infuriated my husband by telling him to ask me to read something again and again. I can see all the way over there! It was amazing, and I would recommend TLC to anyone who wants LASIK.”
